To celebrate 25 years of discovering and hipping us to some of the best left-field psych bands of the last couple of decades, Bristol’s legendary Rocket Recordings has done another brilliant thing and collected together tracks by eight bands on its current roster. A full-throttle, metaphysical travelogue of sorts, the record includes the amp-damaging repetitive thunder of Gnod’s ‘Nought Sayin’, the minimal electronic spell-casting of J. Zunz’s ‘Radix’, Shit & Shine’s gleefully ornery ‘What’d You Mean, What?, What’, the potent rural vibrations of Smote’s ‘Coal Tongue’, and Goat’s alt-dancefloor-destroyer, ‘Goatsnake’ – which makes it undoubtedly one of the best label compilations of the last decade. Can’t wait to see what phenomenal music Rocket will give us win the next quarter century.
