Mogadishu's Dur-Dur Band were at the heart of Somalia's thriving 1980s music scene, mixing local melodies with funk, disco, reggae, soul and jazz. Volumes 3 and 4, recorded in 1988 and 1989, capture the group at their creative peak. Following singer Shimaali Ahmed Shimaali's departure and the death of founding bandleader Isse Dahir Qassim, drummer Adan Handal steered the group towards electronic percussion, unusual drum sounds and reggae rhythms while retaining their distinctive Somali roots.
