Air Miami and Colourbox meet on Complicated Opposition, a double A-side from 4AD marking the 2026 World Cup with two offbeat football anthems.
‘World Cup Fever’ (1995) by Air Miami grew out of the band’s time touring the U.S. during the 1994 tournament, sparked by a throwaway comment that stuck. Loose, melodic and wry, it captures football fandom through an indie-pop lens.
On the flip, Colourbox’s ‘The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme’ (1986) offers a very different take—an electronic piece originally pitched for BBC World Cup coverage but never used.
Both tracks are newly remastered, bringing together two distinct eras of alternative music orbiting the global game.
