Arthur Russell Love Is Overtaking Me compiles the late artist’s folk, pop and country songs into a wide-ranging portrait drawn from recordings spanning 1973 to 1991. This remastered edition uses newly discovered tape sources, with audio restored by Timothy Stollenwerk and updated artwork by Molly Smith, alongside liner notes from Russell’s partner Tom Lee.
Originally assembled by Audika Records, the collection traces Russell’s songwriting across numerous projects and collaborations, including sessions with producer John Hammond and recordings with The Flying Hearts, featuring a rotating cast of experimental and downtown musicians. Other aliases such as The Sailboats, Turbo Sporty and Bright & Early also appear.
Drawn from hours of material, Love Is Overtaking Me highlights Russell’s instinct for melody and emotional directness, offering an intimate overview of a singular artist whose influence continues to resonate.
