Bodega - Broken Equipment
Released: 11/03/22
With Broken Equipment, Bodega's follow-up to the acclaimed 2018 album Endless Scroll, the Brooklyn art-punks might, just might, have usurped LCD Soundsystem to cement their status as the new go-to band for erudite, poetic, politics-inflected, and down-and-dirty tales of New York City life. Indeed, it's perhaps helpful to think of Bodega as the musical equivalent of theRed Scarepodcast. Or the kind of band that Kendall Roy would try to book, unsuccessfully, for a party.
To add credence to this argument, Broken Equipment was inspired by a book club that Bodega and their close friends inaugurated in the early months of 2020, with the aim of studying works by a wide range of philosophers. The result is a pleasingly odd mix of existential quandaries, tongue-in-cheek humour (on the single Doers' they ape Daft Punk with the refrain bitter, harder, fatter, stressed out), and, perhaps most importantly of all, ridiculously infectious tracks that make you really, really`want to dance.
