Moon Diagrams - Cemetery Classics
Released: 21/06/2024
In contrast to the overt dance influences found on debutLifetime of Love, and follow-upTrappy Bats(the title revealing the genre-focus of that LP),the third album from the Deerhunter co-founder Moses Archuleta's Moon Diagrams project plays more like a cross between the Tropicália-inflected dub of Panda Bear, and the genre-hopping, experimental collage loops of Klara Lewis and Nik Colk Void's excellentFull-On, similarly sounding like it is has been beamed in from a pirate radio station in the Orion Nebula.
Veering from the lovely Basinski-esque, degrading in real time' sound of Neptune', to the stunning Fifteen Shows at One Time', which sounds like an Andrew Weatherall (RIP) remix of an unreleased Talking Heads track, to the Art of Noise-style art-pop of first single Very Much My Promise to You', and taking in shades of trip-hop, shoegaze, Daft Punk and Jan Hammer along the way,Cemetery Classicsis a dazzling LP from one of the finest post-modern alt-pop artists going.
