Jerkcurb – the South London project of Jacob Read – returns with his second album Night Fishing On A Calm Lake. Where 2019’s Air Con Eden suggested expansion into a full band, Read’s plans shifted following the death of his father, a painter and lifelong influence. Instead, he turned inward, creating an album shaped by grief, memory and quiet redemption.
The record draws on the restrained beauty of Prefab Sprout, Talk Talk and The Blue Nile, finding power in silence and stillness. Produced and engineered at home, with contributions from Lara Laeverenz and Gray Rimmer, the album was mixed by Dilip Harris (King Krule, Mount Kimbie).
Its artwork, painted in his father’s Camberwell studio, sets the tone: an oil study in blurred blue and black, hinting at film noir and magical realism. Night Fishing On A Calm Lake is Jerkcurb at his most intimate and evocative.
