@ (pronounced ‘At’) are Philadelphia guitarist Victoria Rose and Baltimore producer Stone Filipczak, whose debut album Mind Palace Music was recorded remotely in 2020. Their self-described ‘hyperfolk’ mixes delicate acoustic guitars, electronic oddities and candid lyrics, drawing inspiration from Vashti Bunyan, Laurie Spiegel, Elliott Smith and Sparklehorse. From the flute-adorned ‘Where’d You Put Me’ to the bittersweet ‘Cut From Toxic Cloth’ and sprawling closer ‘My Garden’, the duo combine warm folk melodies with subtly unsettling arrangements. Originally released in 2021, it's an intimate, slightly strange record that makes distance feel remarkably small.
