Lost Girls - Selvutsletter

The sophomore LP, released this year, from Lost Girls, the duo of Jenny Hval and long-time collaborator HÃ¥vard Volden, is maybe the former's best record?! (A big statement, I know ¦) It's not that Lost Girls is wildly different to Hval's solo work “ it still places her truly beautiful and haunting voice front and centre, and has a slightly chilly Nordic wistfulness “ but the impressionistic meandering of some of her solo work is curtailed in favour of thrillingly immediate guitar-focussed art-pop tracks that have no right being as catchy as they are. Case in point: Ruins', which reminds one of the brilliant avant-pop of Charlotte Gainsbourg's5:55, but with a sprinkling of Scandinavian fatalism in lieu of Gallic nostalgia.
