Jane Weaver - The Amber Light
Released: 12/08/22
Originally issued in 2015 as a limited CD-only bonus disc that accompanied The Silver Globealbum's re-release, The Amber Light surprised fans who were expecting a mere B-sides and outtakes LP with what, for many, stood up as a fantastic record in its own right. Indeed, The Amber Light features some of Weaver's best material to date, including the pulsating synth anthem I Need A Connection. Recorded over the course of two long weekends between tours with her custom-built band operating at an energetic optimum, The Amber Light captures Weaver exuding the passion and experimentalism that has rightly made her one of the grande dames of experimental pop.
The Silver Globe's parent' album, 2014's beguiling The Silver Globe, also gets a timely vinyl repressing. The sixth album by Weaver, the LP is a concept record of sorts (based loosely on Andrzej Żuławski's unfinished dystopian feature film On the Silver Globe, among other things) and features a personnel of vintage Atari music composers next to Australian synth pioneers. Experimental, motorik drone-pop of the highest caliber, if you're a fan of Neu, Broadcast, Gwenno, or Melody's Echo Chamber, The Silver Globe will blow your retro-futurist socks off.
