Mutant, in partnership with Back Lot Music and Focus Features, present Bobby Krlic’s score for Anemone, the debut feature from writer-director Ronan Day-Lewis. The film is an intimate psychological drama centred on a family struggling to reconnect in the aftermath of emotional collapse, marking Daniel Day-Lewis’ return to the screen.
Krlic’s music plays a central role in shaping the film’s atmosphere. Swells of distorted melody and slow-moving textures drift and crash like waves, blurring the line between tenderness and unease. Drawing on shoegaze-leaning sonics and orchestral weight, the score amplifies the film’s raw performances and surreal imagery without overwhelming them, creating a sense of emotional pressure that lingers long after the screen cuts to black.
Direct, unguarded and deeply felt, the music functions as an internal monologue for the film itself — equal parts restraint and release. The release also features liner notes by Ronan Day-Lewis, offering further insight into the collaboration and creative intent behind the score.
