Caterina Barbieri & Bendik Giske - At Source

Caterina Barbieri & Bendik Giske’s At Source frames music as a point of origin: elemental, elusive and essential. Working in close collaboration, the two composer-musicians build a shared sonic world where analogue synthesis and extended saxophone techniques meet as equal, questioning forces.
Rather than blending styles, At Source thrives on exchange and tension. Barbieri’s precise, pattern-based synthesis collides with Giske’s physical, breath-driven approach, revealing both the possibilities and limits of bodies and machines in performance. The result is music that feels intimate yet expansive, stripped of excess to reach a deeper expressive core.
The project grew from their first meeting in 2019, through shared performances, reworkings, and an extended period of live development. That process remains central here: the studio recordings retain the responsiveness and openness of music shaped in front of audiences.
Each piece reflects a balance of opposing poles — abstraction and embodiment, structure and vulnerability. At Source captures two distinct practices finding common ground, not as a fixed statement, but as one crystallised moment within an ongoing, ever-evolving collaboration.
