Boris with Michio Kurihara - Rainbow

First issued in 2006, Rainbow brought Boris together with Michio Kurihara, guitarist with Ghost and White Heaven. Heavy rock sits alongside more spacious passages, with Kurihara’s expressive guitar moving from delicate tones to serrated riffs while Takeshi and Wata trade vocals. ‘Rafflesia’ opens with considerable force, but Rainbow also makes room for compact pop songs, glockenspiel, drone-heavy jams and floating psychedelic passages. Distortion and restraint work side by side, giving the record a broad, melodic sound without sacrificing Boris’ considerable weight.
