VARIOUS ERASED TAPES ARTISTS - 1 + 1 = X
Erased Tapes marked its tenth anniversary with 1+1=X, a collective project uniting the label’s roster in Berlin. Rather than compiling solo pieces, the aim was to create music communally, with artists working side by side in real time.
At Vox-Ton studio with engineer Francesco Donadello, new compositions and improvisations took shape through collaboration. Nils Frahm performed with Arthur Jeffes of Penguin Cafe, Kiasmos were joined by Högni and a string ensemble, and Douglas Dare’s ‘Darling’ featured Rival Consoles and Masayoshi Fujita. Peter Broderick’s ‘The Perpetual Glow’ invited everyone present to contribute, blurring the line between performers and bystanders.
Other moments arose spontaneously: Hatis Noit brought a recording from Fukushima, while Rival Consoles reworked a track during a studio break. The result is a record that values community over individuality and celebrates the creative spark that emerges when musicians share space, time and ideas.
