Fred Armisen has always taken an unconventional route through entertainment, whether on screen, stage, or in the studio. With 100 Sound Effects, he turns his attention to foley work—crafting a playful, highly usable collection of sounds that’s equal parts practical toolkit and conceptual art piece.
Designed as a resource for filmmakers, podcasters, and curious listeners alike, the album spans everything from classic cues—glass breaking, doors slamming—to strange, scene-setting vignettes like ‘Campfire Breakfast Conversation’ or ‘Music Venue Employee Kicking Everyone Out While Throwing Away Bottles’. Armisen recorded many sounds himself, capturing ambient noise on location and even visiting a Los Angeles ‘smash room’ to get authentic shattering glass.
Contributions from Bill Hader, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Tim Heidecker and others add personality to the set, while sessions at Studio 606 and Sunset Sound (engineered by Darrell Thorp) helped bring it all together. Originally inspired by classic haunted house sound effects albums, the project is dedicated to the memory of Steve Albini, who supported its early development. Whether used as a sonic library or simply enjoyed for its wit and detail, 100 Sound Effects is unlike anything else.
