Black Truffle presents Radis, the debut recording from an Oslo-based trio featuring Andrea Giordano, Kalle Moberg and Jo David Meyer Lysne. Recorded across Italy and Norway over several years, the album captures an ensemble with a finely balanced group dynamic and a shared sensitivity to texture, space and restraint.
Now based in Norway, Giordano draws on her roots in Piedmont, using the region’s endangered language as the conceptual anchor for the music. Poems by Nino Costa, Bianca Dorato and Oreste Gallina form the basis for improvisations that treat voice not just as narrative, but as sound: fragile, melodic and sometimes hovering alone against silence.
Accordion, organetto, prepared guitar and subtle percussion unfold around the voice in shifting roles, moving from folk-tinged intimacy to gently unruly abstraction. Extended techniques coax wheezing drones, metallic scrapes and microtonal textures from acoustic instruments, while moments of lyricism surface and dissolve without warning.
Carefully mixed by Jim O’Rourke, Radis is quietly expressive and patiently detailed, balancing contemplative beauty with exploratory tension, and revealing a distinctive, evolving sound world shaped by listening as much as playing.
