Cornelius has spent decades developing a distinctive strain of adventurous pop, from 1997 cult favourite Fantasma through collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono. Ninth album Refractions brings his meticulous production and psychedelic instincts into focus through intricate rhythms, gleaming electronics and playful melodic detail. Sean Ono Lennon, Bid and Arto Lindsay contribute guest vocals, while Cornelius also tackles an unexpected cover of The Monochrome Set. Another characteristically inventive set from an artist whose admirers have included Beck, Damon Albarn, Yoko Ono and Nigel Godrich.
