Dirty Three’s Ulterior Motives collects demos and live radio recordings from the trio’s formative years. Originally issued in 2012 as a tour-only CD, it includes early versions of ‘Sue’s Last Ride’, ‘The Last Night’, ‘Everything Is Fucked’ and ‘Indian Love Song’, recorded live in Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White’s rehearsal space before their self-titled debut. Loose, improvised and unruly, they capture the band developing their songs in real time. Closing track ‘Deep Waters’, recorded at Turner’s home after their first overseas tour, offers an early glimpse of a song later heard on Ocean Songs.
