Sleep enter a new phase on Hempispheres, with founding member Al Cisneros joined by Melvins drummer Dale Crover and Void guitarist Bubba Dupree. Following the amicable departure of long-time guitarist Matt Pike, the trio take the band’s stoner metal foundations somewhere less expected, favouring nuance and space over sheer overload. Hempispheres retains the powerful interplay at the heart of Sleep while opening up fresh territory, making for a distinctly different incarnation of the band.
