VARIOUS ARTISTS - SOUNDCITY JOBURG: SOUTH AFRICA'S TOWNSHIP SOUL 1969-1981
Tax included.
During the 1960s and ’70s, American soul and funk took on a distinctly South African character as musicians mixed these influences with jazz and traditional rhythms. Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul 1969-1981 captures Johannesburg’s fiercely competitive scene, where artists created vital music despite apartheid restrictions, police harassment and curfews. Featuring Beat Set, Dudu And The Big Time Boys, The Hurricanes, The Soul Prophets, Reggie Msomi & His Jazz Africa, Elite Swingsters and more, this compilation offers a vivid introduction to the many sounds gathered under the township soul banner.
