Skatalites founder Lester Sterling leads the irresistible ‘Afrikaan Beat’, a 1969 Studio One instrumental recorded for Clement Dodd. Originally written by German bandleader Bert Kaempfert and inspired by South African kwela, Sterling’s sax gives the tune its Jamaican twist. On the flip, The Paragons provide the superb rocksteady ‘My Satisfaction’. ‘Afrikaan Beat’ later appeared on Soul Jazz Records’ Studio One Scorcher compilation.
