Recorded in a cramped Lower East Side club, Jeff Buckley’s performances at Sin-é reveal an artist honing his voice in front of a captivated audience. Armed only with electric guitar, he mixed original songs with an eclectic range of covers, delivering vocals that shifted from quiet intensity to soaring drama.
Originally issued in 1993 as a four-track EP on Columbia Records, Live at Sin-é marked the beginning of his recorded output. This expanded edition presents a more complete picture of those shows, offering extended takes and additional songs that showcase Buckley’s instinct for reinterpretation and emotional risk.
Included are live versions of ‘Grace’, ‘Last Goodbye’ and a striking rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, alongside further material that reflects the breadth of his influences. The recordings capture the immediacy of a small room, a minimal setup, and a performer who treated each song as a leap into the unknown.
This collection documents a formative moment: a young songwriter testing boundaries, connecting with an audience, and shaping a sound that would resonate far beyond Sin-é.
