Adrianne Lenker recorded Hours Were the Birds in her hometown of Minneapolis in 2013, working with producer Rob Oesterlin. Originally released on Saddle Creek in 2014, the album now finds a home on 4AD. Built around Lenker's acoustic guitar and unmistakable voice, these ten songs capture the Big Thief frontwoman before the band's breakthrough. Full of vivid imagery, personal stories and unguarded emotion, it's a stripped-back introduction to one of contemporary folk's finest songwriters, revealing a talent that was already flourishing long before wider recognition arrived.
