Ahmad Jamal switched to electric piano for Ahmad Jamal ’73, the first of seven studio albums he recorded for 20th Century. Backed by an expanded orchestra arranged and conducted by co-producer Richard Evans, Jamal brings jazz, soul and funk together with strings, horns and vocals. The set includes versions of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ and War’s ‘The World Is a Ghetto’, alongside the spiritual jazz-funk of ‘Sustah, Sustah’ and ‘Peace at Last’.
