DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS
Baghdad-born musician Al Basim recorded Revival during a trip to the US in 1978, bringing Arabic musical influences together with the psychedelic and progressive rock he loved growing up. Melodic guitar leads the way through expansive jams, spiritual jazz, Middle Eastern ambience and meditative passages, creating a record that remains difficult to pin down. Originally privately released in 1979, Revival captures Basim and his band moving freely between reflective pieces and more exploratory, jazz-inflected workouts.
