Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman created House With A Curse as an alternative score for Rupert Julian’s 1925 silent horror The Phantom of the Opera. Commissioned by Dundee Contemporary Arts’ Dundead Film Festival, the duo draw directly from the film, with Perman recording percussion inspired by its stone, wood, glass and metal environments. Choral voices, piano, synthesiser, drum machines, guitar and Mellotron move between eerie electronics, processed opera and hypnotic melodies, bringing a contemporary perspective to the film’s themes of disability and otherness.
