Common Primitives is the second collaborative album from Andy Bell (Ride) and Essex duo Masal. Developed from free improvisations, its seven tracks move between kosmische, astral jazz and Turkish folk with a calm, exploratory spirit. Inspired in part by Pharoah Sanders, the trio build layered arrangements from instinctive performances, while Özlem Simsek adds harp and vocals to the traditional folk song 'After Kâtibim'. The result is an absorbing journey that rewards close listening.
