Few artists have travelled as far across the musical spectrum as Asha Puthli. The Essential is the first official career-spanning compilation celebrating her adventures in psychedelia, Indian classical music, free jazz, soul, disco and pop. From early garage rock with The Savages to collaborations with Ornette Coleman, the collection traces her restless creativity through tracks including 'Space Talk', 'I'm Gonna Dance' and 'Music Machine'. There's also the wonderfully peculiar 'We're Gonna Bury The Rock With The Roll Tonight' and a rare Michael Jackson cover. A fascinating introduction to a genuine musical trailblazer.
