Three decades on, BaBa ZuLa remain one of contemporary music's most adventurous bands. On XXX, the Istanbul collective once again expand their distinctive fusion of Turkish psychedelia, Anatolian folk, dub and analogue electronics, built around hypnotic saz lines and propulsive rhythms. Long admired for collaborations with figures including Mad Professor, Jaki Liebezeit, members of Faust and Einstürzende Neubauten, and Warren Ellis, the band continue to follow their own path. XXX blends exploratory instrumentals with politically charged songs, drawing on folklore, ecology and urban life to create another bold, boundary-defying collection.
