Led by the multi-talented Serafina Steer, who has worked with the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Bat for Lashes and Seb Rochford, Bas Jan (named after the Dutch performance artist Bas Jan Ader, which in itself is a statement of intent) display a fierce intelligence that is augmented by an endearing compassion and curiosity. It’s a winning combination, and just one of many reasons why Bas Jan are perennially one of the UK’s most fascinating groups.
