Memoria sees Carmen Villain build on Only Love from Now On with seven patient, dub-influenced pieces inspired by memory, deep listening and sound itself. Drawing on Pauline Oliveros's ideas and Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Memoria, Villain reshapes recordings from her own archive alongside new sessions with flautist Johanna Orellana, trumpeter Eivind Lønning and her own clarinet. Recent work composing for dance, installations and an IRCAM residency also informs the album's spacious production. Echoes of Rhythm & Sound, Jon Hassell, Actress and Pharoah Sanders surface throughout, but Memoria remains a distinctive study of texture, atmosphere and transformation.
