As with Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke and Oren Ambarchi's previous collaborations, the text-art of the album title, carried through to the track titles themselves (e.g., A contradiction has started to devour the numerical sequence We may be made aware that normal??? exists finally') “ which I hope is incredibly triggering for all language prescriptivists out there “ is perfectly indicative of the rhizomatic nature of their work; that is to say, completely, thrillingly, unpredictable.

On Caught in ¦ , the Japanese noise/drone legend Haino; Tokyo-based Renaissance man O'Rourke (whose sui generis career includes a stint as a member of Sonic Youth, and the role of music supervisor on the Jack Black-starring School of Rock); and Australian avant-rock/metal pioneer Ambarchi (who, among other things, is a long-standing satellite member of Sun O)))),take turns on various instruments, including metal percussion, electronics, gongs and bells, tuned percussion, drums (Haino's explosively untutored approach to the kit is always a joy to behold), Hammond organ, guitar, and more “ augmented with Haino's primordial vocals. By the time you reach side three of the LP, when a guitar/bass/drums power trio is established and lurches into a passage of massive, lumbering rock that threatens to fall apart at every beat “ you will hopefully be experiencing what is known, technically, as an ecstatic state of ear-bludgeoned sensory deprivation. Immense.
