Charlemagne Palestine / Oren Ambarchi / Daniel O'Sullivan - KKAARREENNIINNAA

Charlemagne Palestine joins multi-instrumentalist Daniel O’Sullivan and guitarist Oren Ambarchi for ‘KKKAAARRREEENNNIIINNNAAA’, recorded live in London in 2025. The piece reworks Palestine’s 1997 ‘magic song’ ‘Karenina’, originally written for falsetto voice and harmonium in memory of his black labrador. O’Sullivan sets cassette recordings of the original out of phase, surrounding Palestine’s organs and hypnotic vocals with viola and synthesizer, while Ambarchi adds swirling guitar. The result is a dense, psychedelic piece rooted in drone, repetition and Palestine’s enduring search for the ‘golden sound’.
