Such is the legendary Throbbing Gristle’s nonpareil status as the most important industrial/noise group of all time, that the incredible work of TG alums Chris & Cosey (AKA Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti), who started making music as a duo after TG disbanded in 1981, sometimes gets overlooked. For anyone yet to make C&C’s acquaintance – or, indeed, need a reminder of their greatness – we have happy news indeed, for a triple-threat of C&C rereleases is about to land: Elemental Seven, from 1984, the soundtrack to the film of the same name, and hands down one of the most influential electronic albums ever made (listen to ‘Dancing Ghosts’ to see how ahead of the game they were), and available again for the first time in 40 years; 1993’s Muzik Fantastique! – a classic post-club album, which sounds like Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence if all the players had been on ketamine; and 2007’s gorgeous and haunting dark-ambient masterpiece Feral Vapours of the Silver Ether, released under the alias Carter Tutti (and available here for the first time on vinyl), on which the electronic and the acoustic merge seamlessly to bring forth echoes of the moon, the sea, and the wide open road. Astounding stuff.
