After a three-year break, Daphni—the dancefloor-focused alias of Dan Snaith (Caribou)—returns with Butterfly, an album that blurs the line between his two musical worlds. Following the standalone single ‘Sad Piano House’ and his collaboration with Sofia Kourtesis, Snaith explores the deep connection between his DJ instincts and studio experiments.
The record’s lead track, ‘Waiting So Long (feat. Caribou)’, marks the first time Snaith’s two projects officially meet, his own voice appearing on a Daphni track for the first time. Like 2012’s Jiaolong, Butterfly thrives on contrast and curiosity—balancing raw, floor-filling energy with leftfield eccentricities.
Tracks such as ‘Clap Your Hands’ and ‘Hang’ channel kinetic club energy, while ‘Lucky’, ‘Invention’ and ‘Talk To Me’ take stranger, more playful detours. Together they form a loose narrative of experimentation, energy and joy—a reflection of Snaith’s own DJ sets, where the functional meets the unexpected.
As Snaith describes, the album embodies the spirit of spaces like Germany’s Open Ground club: expansive, communal, and open to all possibilities. Butterfly captures that ethos—restless, human and constantly in motion.
