Fog On Mirror Glass finds Donald Beaman stepping away from the full-band arrangements of his earlier albums to focus on intimate, mostly solo performances.
Recorded largely in Beaman’s living room, the album was captured by producer Kirt Lind, who set up a makeshift home studio to record the songs on the same guitars and in the same space where they were written. The result is a slow-unfolding set of reflective songs with sparse, expressive arrangements reminiscent of Cass McCombs, Will Oldham and Jake Xerxes Fussell.
‘Glass Bottom Boat’ opens the record with just voice and guitar, while the title track introduces spectral guitar from longtime collaborator Ken Lovgren. ‘Old Universe’ adds gentle rhythm from drummer Michael Nalin and Lind’s buoyant bass before the album closes quietly with ‘Bamboo’.
