Anders Trentemøller is a supremely gifted man. A brilliant producer, and remixer for the likes of The Knife, UNKLE, Franz Ferdinand, Andrew Weatherall, Efterklang and Depeche Mode, his music has a filmic quality that has seen directors such as Pedro Almodóvar and Jacques Audiard judiciously employ the Danish artist's work in their movies. Perhaps an even better indicator of his talent, however, is the respect conferred on him by fellow left-field artists of the calibre of Low and Blonde Redhead, both of whom guested on his 2013 LPLost

And yet, and yet, as much as I liked Trentemøller's records, it wasn't until I heard the new album Dreamweaver that it properly clicked for me, due simply to the fact that it's the first of his LPs to fully feature Icelandic vocalist Disa (she also guested on the best tracks on 2022'sMemoria). Blessed with a voice that recalls Hope Sandoval, Elizabeth Fraser, Kristin Hersh and Julee Cruise, Trentemøller is savvy enough to realise that a voice like that needs be served by the tracks, rather than vice-versa, and accordingly Dreamweaveris the most organic LP he's created to date, recalling the highs of Mazzy star, Cocteau Twins and Slowdive. Gone are the tricksy indie-tronica whir-and-fizz flourishes that often cluttered his previous work, leaving vital space for Disa's ethereal voice to ensorcel and amaze.
