Elanor Moss’s debut album The Knife, The Needle emerged from a period of uncertainty that ultimately led her back to the music that mattered most to her. After experimenting with different directions following her EPs Citrus and Cosmic, Moss returned to folk songwriting, spending time with her guitar, a borrowed four-track recorder and a renewed focus on the stories she wanted to tell.
Drawing on personal reflection and family history, these songs explore how love can nurture, wound and transform. Moss’ understated songwriting is enriched by arrangements from a cast of musicians including Matthew Herd, Marcus Hamblett, Jool Owen, Andrew Stuart-Buttle, Reid Jenkins and Linus Fenton, adding depth without overshadowing the emotional core of the record.
Initially recorded in New York, the album was later reimagined in the Scottish Highlands with producer Pete Miles, resulting in a quieter and more intimate collection. The result is a striking set of contemporary folk songs that balances vulnerability, tenderness and hard-won insight.
