For more than 50 years, Hans-Joachim Irmler has explored the physical power of sound, using organ, synthesisers, tape manipulation and self-built electronics to create music that is instinctive, unpredictable and uncompromising. Recorded solo at Faust's studio in Scheer, Ungebunden is an entirely improvised work where ideas emerge in the moment rather than following a plan. Mellotron, organ, piano, distorted synths and crashing percussion collide across four expansive pieces, shifting between towering drones, fractured electronics, psychedelic rhythms and bursts of noise. It's a bold, constantly evolving album that captures Irmler's restless imagination at full strength.
