feeo, the London-based experimental artist and new AD 93 signing, releases debut album Goodness. Guided by the single ‘The Hammer Strikes The Bell’, the record draws together drone, ambient, improvisation, experimental electronics and minimalist dance, illuminated by feeo’s distinctive voice and poetic sensibility.
Goodness unfolds across eleven interlinked pieces that balance contrasts: solitude and togetherness, city and nature, beauty and volatility. feeo describes it as “an exploration of simultaneous yet opposing states of being; darkness and lightness, obscurity and visibility.” Each track functions as part of a larger whole, its meaning deepened when experienced in sequence.
The album moves from the fractured spoken word of ‘Days pt.1’ and the close-mic ambience of ‘The Mountain’ to the arhythmic pulse of ‘Win!’, the looping piano of ‘Sandpit’, the lap steel abstraction of ‘There Is No I’, and the luminous improvisation of ‘The Hammer Strikes The Bell’.
Praised by The Wire as part of London’s new wave of experimental artists, feeo has collaborated with Loraine James and Caius Williams. Goodness marks both her first full-length statement and a collaborative evolution in her practice.
