Floating Points San Francisco Ballet Orchestra - Mere Mortals

Floating Points presents Mere Mortals, his first full-length ballet score, commissioned by San Francisco Ballet Artistic Director Tamara Rojo. Reimagining the myth of Pandora through music, movement and visual design, the work was created with choreographer Aszure Barton and Hamill Industries.

Recorded with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon, the 14-piece score moves between sweeping orchestral passages and electronic composition. Moments of lyrical beauty sit alongside darker, more dramatic sections, from the soaring violin of ‘Hope’ to the thunderous intensity of ‘Rage of the Gods’.

Blending strings, brass, percussion and electronics, Mere Mortals reflects the ballet’s exploration of the boundaries between humanity and technology, resulting in an ambitious and cinematic work from Floating Points.
