Originally released on Skye Records in 1968, Gábor Szabó’s sought-after recording showcases the Hungarian guitarist’s instantly recognisable tone alongside arrangements by Gary McFarland. Its delicate psychedelic jazz draws on Szabó’s Eastern European roots and the sound he developed after moving to the US, studying at Berklee and joining Chico Hamilton’s quintet. He later recorded extensively for Impulse! and worked with Lena Horne, Charles Earland, Tom Scott and Coke Escovedo. Szabó’s recordings also became a favourite source for hip-hop producers, sampled by Black Star, People Under The Stairs and Diamond D.
