goat (jp) expand the score for Cindy Van Acker’s Without References into a stark and hypnotic work built on precision rhythm and stripped-back repetition. Led by Koshiro Hino (YPY, Kakuhan, Boredoms, Mark Fell), the Osaka ensemble use guitar, bass, drums and percussion to construct dense rhythmic patterns that sit somewhere between post-rock, minimalism and contemporary composition.
Muted bass pulses, interlocking percussion and fractured harmonics drive the music forward with relentless momentum, balancing mechanical discipline with raw physical force. Originally written for Van Acker’s dance production — featuring scenography by Romeo Castellucci — the music mirrors the choreography’s tension, movement and spatial focus.
