HOWL - NIGHT CREATURES

HOWL is a vocal ensemble from the UK. Hailing from a range of diverse musical backgrounds from opera to folk and musical theatre, HOWL are brought together through the love of complex, lush, haunting and often absurd vocal music.

They perform original compositions along with arrangements of folk songs and works by composers such as Meredith Monk, Moondog and Caroline Shaw.

"Night Creatures" is both a celebration and a warning: it honours in lyric and music the mysterious lives of four different nocturnal creatures -- Sea Turtle, Moth, Glow-Worm and Tawny Owl -- and illuminates the dangers these largely 'unseen' beings face in the unfolding ecological crises of today. This is music that moves the listener both to wonder and to action.

These are songs of swooping, soaring vocal complexity -- by turns moving, haunting and joyful. Here, voices light up like Glow-worms in a field, call each to each like owls in a night-wood, flock and swirl like moths at dusk -- and dive into the blue-black depths of a sea-turtle's long ocean journeys. Ambitious, passionate and beautiful, these songs draw the listener deeper into the strangeness and marvels of these more-than-human worlds.
