Jeff Parker's Suite for Max Brown follows 2016's The New Breed, combining jazz improvisation with programmed beats, samples and electronic sounds. Dedicated to his mother, Maxine Brown, the album features Parker playing most of the instruments alongside collaborators including Makaya McCraven, Rob Mazurek, Josh Johnson and his daughter Ruby Parker. Alongside original compositions are interpretations of John Coltrane's 'After the Rain' and Joe Henderson's 'Black Narcissus'. Recorded largely at home, it's a playful meeting of human musicianship and machine rhythms, drawing on Parker's love of jazz, hip-hop and experimental electronics.
