Jeremy Dower & Tetrphnm - Personal Computer Music, 1997-2022
Tax included.
Jeremy Dower, the reclusive Melbourne electronic artist, is celebrated with Personal Computer Music, 1997–2022, a compilation of unreleased recordings spanning twenty-five years. The set divides between his 1990s ambient techno alias Tetrphnm and the wistful, jazz-influenced work he later made under his own name.
Released by Chapter Music, the compilation follows their digital reissues of Sentimental Dance Music For Couples (originally on US label Plug Research, home to Flying Lotus and Jon Tejada) and Music For the Young and the Restless (first issued on Japan’s Bit Of Heaven). Built with cheap sound cards, 12-bit samplers and improvisatory methods, Dower’s music developed alongside but outside IDM and microhouse, resulting in a sound both playful and singular.
Influenced by Monolake, Mouse On Mars, João Gilberto and Alain Goraguer, yet always charting his own path, Dower’s work has long deserved wider attention. Personal Computer Music, 1997–2022 finally offers a deep dive into his distinctive, inventive catalogue.
