Best known as one half of Jess Sah Bi & Peter One, Jess Sah Bi helped bring country-influenced songwriting to audiences across Ivory Coast in the 1980s. In the early ’90s, after a life-threatening illness and a spiritual turning point, he made a promise to record an album devoted to his faith.
That album, Jesus-Christ Ne Deçoit Pas, was recorded in South Carolina with the help of local musicians, pairing acoustic guitar, light percussion and keys with Sah Bi’s voice, harmonica and fingerpicked playing. Sung in French and Gouro, the songs are direct and reflective, shaped by gratitude and belief.
Originally released in 1991 in a small cassette run, the record never made it to digital after its master tape was lost. This reissue restores a key moment in Sah Bi’s story—his only gospel album—and captures a stripped-back, devotional side of an artist whose work continues to resonate across generations.
