Mary Lattimore and Julianna Barwick join forces on Tragic Magic — a collaboration that fuses harp, voice and analog synthesizers into a meditative, emotionally charged soundscape. Recorded at the Philharmonie de Paris and co-produced by Trevor Spencer (Fleet Foxes, Beach House), the album was made in just nine days, reflecting the creative understanding the duo have developed over years of touring together.
The project is part of InFiné’s ongoing partnership with the Philharmonie and the Musée de la Musique, which grants artists access to the museum’s extraordinary collection of playable instruments. Following previous releases by Arandel and Seb Martel, Tragic Magic pairs two of ambient music’s most distinctive voices in an exploration of tragedy, renewal, and connection through sound.
Lattimore performs on harps spanning centuries of craftsmanship, while Barwick layers vocals and classic analog synths such as the Roland JUPITER and Sequential Circuits PROPHET-5. Together they create seven fluid compositions that bridge history and modernity, drawing solace and beauty from shared experience. The result is music that feels timeless — a quiet conversation between past and present, and a reflection on how art endures even in the face of uncertainty.
