Kazdoura follow debut album Ghoyoum with Markab, their first release for Habibi Funk. The Syrian-Lebanese duo of Leen Hamo and John Abou Chacra draw on Arabic maqamat while folding psychedelic and Anatolian rock, jazz, Afrobeat and Gnawa into their band-led sound. Hamo’s vocals sit among guitar, saxophone and flute, backed by prominent bass, live drums and analogue textures. Across ten tracks, Markab addresses homeland, love, vulnerability and social expectations, alongside interpretations of traditional song ‘Ya Maria’ and Elias Rahbani’s ‘Ya Nassini’.
