Like many artists faced with pandemic-induced tour cancellations, Welsh electronic producer Kelly Lee Owens decided to fill her unexpected free time by heading to the studio. Unlike her peers, however, she made the spontaneous decision to travel – her destination: Oslo, where she teamed up with Norwegian noise artist Lasse Marhaug (whose previous credits include co-production duties on Jenny Hval’s The Practice of Love).
 
This collaboration and the change of scenery obviously worked wonders, for LP.8, the follow-up to Lee Owens’ wonderful sophomore album Inner Song, is a transcendent, beautifully-produced minimalist gem. On LP.8 kick drums shimmer, Lee Owens' gorgeous ded-pan vocals elicit involuntary spine-tingling, and synth lines rise and fall, all converging at the sweet spot between techno and pop.

One month later, Kelly called her label to tell them she had created something of an outlier, her ‘eighth album’.
